Multimedia Bay Area Journalist with experience in digital, radio and broadcast

I'm Amanda, a Bay Area journalist

Hi, I’m Amanda Hernandez, a multimedia journalist passionate about telling impactful stories across radio, broadcast, and digital platforms. As a recent graduate of San Francisco State University’s Broadcast and Electronic Communication Arts program, I’ve built experience in anchoring, reporting, producing, and multimedia storytelling in fast-paced newsroom environments.

As a non-traditional student who returned to school in 2022, journalism became more than a career path,it became a purpose. Before transferring to SFSU, I earned my AA in Journalism from Bakersfield College and gained early newsroom experience as a web producer at KGET 17 News.

My work has expanded across television news, radio, documentary filmmaking, and digital journalism, including reporting and producing stories at KQED covering housing, education, weather, and social issues. I’m especially passionate about housing, social justice, breaking news, and stories that amplify underrepresented voices. No matter the platform, my goal is to tell stories with empathy, accuracy, and integrity.

Community Voices: Community college helped me thrive

When deciding what college to attend for continued education, students ask themselves many questions. But the truth is that an institution’s reputation takes precedence over the opportunities that may be available for the student. My journey was a clear representation of this.Following high school graduation in 2018, many of my peers were enrolled and planning to attend Bakersfield College, but I refused to apply because I felt that attending a community college meant that I was less intelligent...
