About Me

I’m Amanda Hernandez, a journalism student at San Francisco State University with a background in both print and digital media. Originally from Bakersfield, California, I took a non-traditional path into journalism, stepping away from college and later returning with a clearer sense of purpose. Now at 24, I’m focused on building a career in broadcasting, bringing with me years of experience telling stories that are real, honest, and human.

I’ve contributed to The Renegade Rip as both a reporter and editor, and to The San Francisco Foghorn as a staff writer. I also worked as a web producer at KGET 17, where I gained hands-on experience in digital journalism. I’m especially proud of my sports reporting, not just covering games, but highlighting the people behind them and the stories that don’t always make headlines.

As a Latina and non-traditional student, I am seeking opportunities to dive into stories that focus on underrepresented communities. I’m passionate about stories that intersect with sports and identity, and I aim to uncover the humanity behind every subject I report on.

I have experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, Photoshop, and WordPress, along with essential communication tools like Microsoft Office applications. I enjoy both the creative and technical sides of storytelling and am always eager to learn new tools.

Currently, I’m working toward completing my bachelor’s degree in Broadcast and Electronic Arts at San Francisco State. My goal is to find an entry-level role where I can continue growing as a journalist across print, digital, and broadcast platforms.
