About Me
I’m Amanda Hernandez, a journalist and Broadcast and Electronic Arts student at San Francisco State University with experience across radio, digital, and print media. My path into journalism has been anything but traditional, from editing for The Renegade Rip and writing for The San Francisco Foghorn, to producing digital content at KGET 17 News and ghostwriting for the marketing team at Bakersfield College. I’ve also written Community Voices pieces for The Bakersfield Californian, and I currently work as a radio newscast intern at KQED, helping produce stories on education, housing, and social issues impacting Bay Area residents.
As a Latina journalist, I’m passionate about telling stories that reflect underrepresented communities and uncover the humanity behind every issue. My work is guided by a commitment to truth and to authentically representing the communities I serve and write about. I believe it’s a journalist’s responsibility to reflect what’s happening within a community so people have the opportunity to make informed choices and see themselves represented in the stories being told.
Looking ahead, my goal is to complete my studies at San Francisco State and continue growing as a broadcast journalist, producing stories that inform, empower, and connect communities. I aim to use my voice and skills to tell stories that matter, stories that shed light on the experiences of real people and the issues that shape their lives.
