The Dons Men’s Basketball Team beat the University of San Diego Toreros 95-79 on Thursday, Feb 1.

Rescue crews save 1 person from near-drowning, 6 others rescued from Kern River

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — One person nearly drowned and six others were rescued after entering the Kern River in a kayak Saturday, the Bakersfield Fire Department said.


The fire department said the rescue happened at around 1:30 p.m. near Pyles Boys Campground.

Comic Nick Swardson’s Fox Theater performance rescheduled for August

BAKERSFIELD, Calif (KGET) — Comedian Nick Swardson has rescheduled a performance that was abruptly canceled last week.


Swardson’s show has been rescheduled to Aug. 18, 2023 at the Fox Theater.

Swardson, who was originally scheduled to perform on May 20, canceled his scheduled performance just hours before show time.
Promoters said Swardson was ill and unable to make it to the event.

Wind Wolves preserve re-opens after road work closure

Updated: May 24, 2023 / 11:21 AM PDT BAKERSFIELD, Calif (KGET) — Wind Wolves Preserve has re-opened its doors the conservancy announced Wednesday.


According to a social media post, Wind Wolves will be open during regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 7p.m. throughout Memorial Day Weekend.


The previous closure was due to roadwork on Maricopa Highway 166.

Hit-and-run crash momentarily halted traffic on NB HWY 99 near Buck Owens off-ramp

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The CHP responded to a traffic collision on northbound Highway 99 Friday afternoon.


According to the CHP Traffic Incident Information Page, the crash occurred on northbound Highway 99, near the Buck Owens off ramp.


A bright green bus was reported to have collided with a red Ford Explorer.
At least one child was transported to a hospital, according to CHP.


The extent of the victim’s injuries was not immediately known.

Bike path closure due to mosquito spray over the area as problem increases

BAKERSFIELD, Calif (KGET) — Portions of the Bakersfield City Bike Path are scheduled to be closed beginning Friday morning due to aerial flights over recharge basins to limit mosquitoes in the area.
